General Accountant

  • To be a key advisor and partner to the business
  • Provide financial and non-financial information to help the business make informed decisions.

Job Responsibilities

Financial and Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare of month-end and year end journal entries
  • Assist Senior Accountant in the preparation of financial statements for assigned Business Units
  • Update month-end working papers and supporting schedules.
  • Complete assigned accounting reconciliations
  • Prepare data required for monthly financial statement consolidation.
  • Ad hoc analysis as requested by other members of financial operations team and business units.
  • Prepare reports necessary to comply with provincial laws and federal regulations.
  • Prepare working papers required for annual external and tax audits.
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Participate in project-based work identified by the finance operations team.
  • Identify financial reporting issues and support the execution of solutions for the Vice President of Financial Operations

Business Operations Reporting and Analysis:

  • Identify areas for improving processes and suggest alternative solutions.
  • Maintain accounting procedures manual with the most current documentation of changes.
  • Assist in constant re-evaluation and implementation of internal controls including financial policies, procedures and the safeguarding of assets.

Service /Support:

  • Demonstrate a high degree of service to all business units.
  • Provide support to other members of shared services as required.

Education, Experience Training Requirements

  • Professional Accounting Designation completed.
  • 1- 5 years accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of Accounting Systems
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office
