Micronutrients are, as the name implies, needed in much smaller quantities than the primary and secondary nutrients. In many cases, we do not apply fertilizers for some of these nutrients in most of our crops; they are usually present in high enough levels that fertilization isn’t advantageous.
Again, this does not mean that they are any less important to crop yield or quality. In many cases, a micronutrient deficiency can cause huge potential yield loss if not corrected. As with any essential plant nutrient, if the soil is depleted or under stress that it can’t access the nutrient, it will show deficiency symptoms.
